The Computer History Museum, located in Silicon Valley, has been dedicated to preserving and celebrating the history of computing and its impact on society since 1999. It is also home to the world’s largest collection of computing artifacts.

While researching, I noticed that the museum felt very archival. With technology constantly changing and pushing new boundaries, I thought the museum’s visual identity could reflect that excitement and unpredictability while still paying homage to the past.

Graphic ElementsWhile developing the graphic elements, I didn’t want to stray too far from the museum’s original position of archiving and celebrating the past. Which is why I decided to pay homage by incorporating elements like recognizable interface assets, ascii art, and past inventions.

I applied my brand colors, which are made up of a bright and fun color palette. The colors reflect the exciting, unpredictable energy that technology carries.

Poster SeriesThe museum has the opportunity to expand it’s audience reach to a younger demographic, especially since younger audiences are more familiar with technology. The familiar graphic elements like cursors and pop-up windows spark curiosity and encourage viewers to find out more about the museum.

Digital PresenceIt was important for the visitors to feel completely immersed with the rebrand, even if they weren’t physically in the museum. Which is why the website takes the user through an immerssive, generative experience.

TypefaceI created a custom typeface inspired by the visual language of the Jacquard Loom and computer punch cards.

My intention was to pay homage to the past while showcasing how the visual language of technology can be translated into modern contexts.
